Privacy & cookie policy

Last updated August 2026.

This policy explains how Playable Technology Limited ("we", "us") collects and uses personal data through this website, and your rights under UK data protection law. We are the data controller — a company registered in Scotland (company no. SC668754), registered office 27 Albert Street, Edinburgh, EH7 5LH. You can reach us at hello@playable.tech.

What we collect, and why

  • When you contact us or enquire (the contact form): your name, email address, and whatever you tell us about your organisation and your enquiry. We use this to respond and, where relevant, to discuss working together. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in answering you, and taking steps at your request before entering an agreement.
  • When you subscribe to our newsletter: your email address (and name, if you give it). We use a double opt-in, so you confirm by email before we add you. You can unsubscribe from any email at any time. Lawful basis: your consent.
  • If you join the BrailleBlocks test programme: your email address, to sign you in to the members area and to run the programme; and any feedback you send us, to improve the app. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running the programme you asked to join, and your consent for any marketing.
  • When you use the Lesson Plan Generator: the details you type in are sent to our AI provider to generate a plan and returned to you. We do not use them to identify you. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in providing the tool.
  • Automatically, for security and reliability: our hosting and functions keep limited technical logs (such as IP address and request details) to protect the site against abuse. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in security.

Cookies & analytics

We keep tracking to a minimum. When you first visit, a banner asks whether to allow analytics. Analytics do not run until you accept — we use Google's Consent Mode, which defaults to "denied", so declining keeps everything essential working with no analytics cookies set. If you accept, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used. We set no advertising cookies. There's also a "Don't count my visits" link in the footer that excludes you from our analytics on that device.

Some cookies are strictly necessary and don't require consent — for example, a secure session cookie that keeps you signed in to the BrailleBlocks members area after you log in.

Who we share data with

We don't sell your data. We use a small number of trusted providers ("processors") to run the site:

  • Google (Firebase & Google Cloud) — website hosting, form/back-end functions, the members database and sign-in, and Google Analytics.
  • Brevo — sends our emails (newsletter confirmations, enquiry notifications, members sign-in links) and stores newsletter/contact records.
  • Anthropic — the AI that powers the Lesson Plan Generator, which processes the request you submit.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK (for example in the US). Where they do, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep personal data only as long as we need it: enquiry correspondence for as long as it's relevant to our relationship with you; newsletter details until you unsubscribe; members-area and test-programme data for the life of the programme. We then delete or anonymise it.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email hello@playable.tech. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
